Joyeeta Gupta wins the Spinoza Prize

Joyeeta Gupta, co-chair of the Earth Commission, has won the prestigious Spinoza Prize for her research into relationships between the climate crisis, potential solutions to it, and justice. The award is the highest distinction in Dutch science, and is known as the Dutch Nobel Prize.

The winner receives 1.5 million euros to fund scientific research and activities related to knowledge utilisation. An official presentation will take place in The Hague on 4 October, 2023. The Dutch Research Council (NWO) is organising the award ceremony. 

The Earth Commission

The Earth Commission, convened by Future Earth, is supported by the Global Challenges Foundation, and is a global team of scientists with a mission to define a safe and just corridor for people and planet. The body is currently working on quantifying the safe and just state of planetary health in terms of Earth system stability and resilience, human wellbeing, equity and justice.
