Call for proposals to reduce nuclear risks
The Consortium to Reduce Nuclear Dangers, hosted by Carnegie Corporation of New York and of which GCF is a member, is now receiving applications for projects aimed at reducing nuclear dangers.
The Consortium to Reduce Nuclear Dangers awarded over USD 5 million to twelve projects from more than 500 applications submitted during the first call for proposals in mid 2025. Given the catastrophic risks posed by nuclear weapons, and to deepen collaboration with leading partners in this space, the Global Challenges Foundation joined the Consortium to Reduce Nuclear Dangers ahead of its second call for proposals.
Now, GCF joins the host of the consortium, Carnegie Corporation of New York, along with Longview Philanthropy, PAX sapiens, and Founders Pledge in welcoming applications for the second wave of this new initiative.
Proposals are welcome for projects that seek to reduce nuclear risks by addressing at least one of the following focus areas:
- Escalation, Crisis Instability, and Multi-Domain Risk
- Verification, Monitoring, and Risk Transparency
- Governance, Institutional Capacity, and Expert Talent
Funding tiers range from $50,000 USD up to $1,000,000 for multi-year projects. The deadline for proposals is midnight ET, the 29th of May and final decisions are likely to be announced in late autumn/winter 2026.
