Biological and chemical warfare – overview (extract Global Catastrophic Risk report 2022)

In recent years, we have witnessed the difficulty of upholding common understandings regarding red lines on the use of chemical weapons. The current geopolitical climate has undermined global solidarity on this issue, and a weakening consensus could lead to the devastating use of more advanced chemical weapons in a large-scale conflict.
