The Global Challenges Foundation partners up with Climate Governance Commission, Climate Disclosure Project, Exponential Climate Action Roadmap for the session Why Global Climate Governance Matters for Business: the Paris Agreement and Beyond held online 21 September 4pm-5pm CEST / 10-11am EST.
The global governance response to the planetary climate/nature emergency has to date been insufficient to confront the scale, gravity, urgency and unprecedented nature of the problem. Despite the success of concluding the 2015 Paris Agreement, it is reported that there is a 97% chance of exceeding a 2°C target based on countries’ climate action thus far. There is clearly a need for exponential action, across all sectors, and involving all actors, including the business community. Against this backdrop, what is the connection between business strategy and global governance reform or enhancement, to effectively manage the climate crisis? Why does climate governance matter for business, and how might it seriously engage and be part of an effective, scaled solution, to facilitate progressive, ambitious global action?
Magnus Jiborn and Maja Groff will give a presentation of the Climate Governance Commission. Looking at facilitating exponential global climate action through a global governance (innovation) lens, and the role for business.
Linda Burenius, Senior Advisor Global Challenges Foundation, will give a presentation on ideas of exponential action and possible bottle necks in global governance.
