The Inter-Regional Workshop on SDG16 was organised by International IDEA and the Community for Democracies in the Palais des Nations, UN Geneva on March 13th.
The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of goals adopted by the UN’s member states to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Goal 16 is about promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies with effective, accountable institutions at all levels.
International and regional organisations, as well as non-governmental organisations, were invited to speak about their experiences of supporting SDG16: the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, the provision of access of justice for all, and the building of effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Ben Rhee, Head of Partnership of the Global Challenges Foundation, gave a presentation on where civil society can contribute to the advancement of Goal 16, and how work on the New Shape Prize and the upcoming New Shape Forum could connect to the other work of key stakeholders supporting SDG16. The panel was moderated by Julia Kercher, Expert Consultant at the UNDP on SDG16.
