A Global League of Sustainable Cities
The submission takes notice of the increased importance of cities in current policy making, and proposes a Global League of Sustainable Cities, circumventing current status quo of nation-states. The league creates a global network of hundreds of sustainable cities that synchronize their policies according to the best practices available to rapidly and decisively lead a fight against climate change, environmental damage, poverty, and violence. The League is open to all the cities in the world that want to be part of the solution to current problems, each pledging a percentage of their budget. The model creates a governing body, a general assembly, a body of experts, and a common know-how database using resources from the world’s top-200 cities initially invited. Votes are decided by simple majorities. Appointed expert juries recommend policies and can also sanction cities violating agreements.
Adrian Mihălțianu
A Diplomatic Law licensee, Adrian Mihălțianu choose to go into IT marketing instead, working for top-level Romanian and multinational companies. Making the switch to journalism, he spent the second decade of his career as Chief Editor at three automotive magazines, also regularly contributing op-eds at major Romanian business and daily newspapers on subjects like public transport, city management, and sustainability.
He's also been published as a science-fiction writer with a major Romanian publishing house, in Nemira's Nautilus collection of 2017. His first novel, Terra XXI - The Age of Innocence, was well received and will be followed by a second volume in the spring of 2018.
Mihălțianu focuses on futurism with a unique perspective coming both from his International Law degree and from interacting directly with the engineers and experts that currently shape our future in transportation, energy, ecology, and architecture.
