Mats Andersson, vice chairman of the Global Challenges Foundation, writes a letter to the editor of the Financial Times “Global south calls for global governance shake-up”, published on 8 August 2018. Mats Andersson comments the strong commitments to multilateralism made by the leaders at the annual BRICS Summit held in Johannesburg by underlining the necessity of a fundamental rethink of the structures of global governance if they are to represent the world’s people and deal effectively with the scale and complexity of today’s global threats.

The article features the results of the ten country survey recently commissioned by the Global Challenges Foundation, on the general public’s views on global risk and global governance.

It also presents the proposals for improved frameworks for governance of global catastrophic risks awarded by the New Shape Prize.
