Jens Orback served in the Swedish government in 2004-2006 as minister for democracy, urban affairs, integration and gender equality, and more recently as Secretary General of the Olof Palme International Center. He also has a background in television journalism. Jens Orback currently chairs the boards of several companies and organisations and has been working with the Global Challenges Foundation since the spring of 2018.
The Global Challenges Foundation was founded in 2012 by Swedish financial analyst and author Laszlo Szombatfalvy. The aim of the Foundation is to contribute to reducing major global challenges and risks that threaten humanity by increasing the understanding of these challenges and stimulating engagement, as well as by sparking discussion and innovative thinking about new decision systems.
“We are very happy to have Jens on board as Executive Director. His experience and skills are invaluable to the continued development of the Foundation”, said Mats Andersson, Vice Chairman of the Global Challenges Foundation. “Going forward, the emphasis will be on continued support for initiatives seeking to find working models of global governance to mitigate global catastrophic risks, develop strategic partnerships, and expand our advocacy efforts.
“Global challenges need to be solved collectively, and that is why I’m looking forward to being a part of the important work the Foundation does on these issues,” said Jens Orback. “Extensive collaboration across national borders is crucial to tackling the climate crisis as well as biological collapse and the nuclear threat. We aim to build lasting relationships with those who share our vision for an improved system of global governance.”
