Climate and environment – main points on the global agenda 2021

January 21, 2021

The Global Challenges Foundation invited to a digital press conference on January 20, 2021, where to present the highlights of the global agenda in the areas of environment and climate.

The speaker is Mats Engström, former Deputy State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of the Environment and who recently released the book Environmental successes – from the ban on freon to the climate law (Miljöframgångar från freonförbud till klimatlag, Fri Tanke, 2020). Mr. Engström presents a compilation of the coming year’s most important climate and environmental events in the global arena based on interviews and the international public debate, and puts them in a context of the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

How will Joe Biden’s presidency affect future politics? Is the conflict between rich and poor countries increasing in the light of “climate tariffs”, debt crises and the struggle for vaccines? How does the EU turn its “green deal” into the global arena? How can countries position themselves ahead of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on the Environment in Stockholm in 2022, and Sweden’s EU Presidency 2023?

The Global Challenges Foundation’s Executive Director Jens Orback gives a short introductory speech.
